Community Clean-up

Community Garden 29th July 2017

UPDATE: due to unforseen circumstances we have decided to postpone this Saturday’s clean-up for a few weeks. Join us instead in the Shirley Warren Community Garden, to see what’s growing, pitch in, and maybe even learn a thing or two. This wonderful space is a gem in the heart of Shirley Warren.

The community garden is a child-friendly space. Located to the rear of the Shirley Warren Action Centre (117 Warren Crescent), access is via the gate to the left of the Co-op Childcare.

(For anyone who was really looking forward to clean-up, we will be organising another one in the very near future – keep an eye on our page for more!)

Community Clean-ups in Shirley Warren

Since October 2016 we have been holding regular clean-ups in Shirley Warren, to make the community a better place. These are taking place about every six weeks. Check the updates below and our facebook page for details of the latest clean-up. We usually meet at the entrance to the greenway, on Warren Avenue. All materials are provided, and there will be lunch/refreshments after.

Update 30th January 2017

Great turnout on Saturday for our Clean-up and fantastic weather to boot!

Thanks to everyone who came along and got stuck in. We collected even more than the last time! It’s made such a difference to the Greenway, and the streets around Shirley Warren. Check out the photos below. If you missed this one put the next one in your diary – 11th March 2017.

Community Clean-up January 2017

Building on the success of the last clean-up and the difference it made to Shirley Warren many in the community have said we should make the litter-pick a regular event. We are going to have a clean-up every half term, with the next one on 28th January 2017.

Meeting at 10 a.m. outside the Ice House on Warren Avenue, all the litter-pickers and bags will be provided. We will have some gloves as well, but if you can please bring your own pair too. We’ll keep going until 1 p.m., then stop into the Ice House for some luch and a cuppa.

Bring your family and friends – all are welcome. We do ask that young children be supervised at all times.

Update – Success on our Clean-up!

We had a great response to our Clean-Up in Shirley Warren on 22nd October. Residents from Shirley Warren and beyond donned their gloves and litter pickers and set about tidying the Greenway from Warren Avenue around to Stoke Road. With materials generously loaned by Southampton City Council, we collected bags and bags of recycling and other waste. After a morning’s work we headed to the Ice House pub on Warren Avenue for lunch and a well deserved cuppa.

The Greenway is a great amenity to the area, whether you are out walking the dog or getting some exercise. By keeping the Greenway clean we make it a better place for the community to use. We will be looking to do further clean-ups again, around Shirley Warren. If you are interested in taking part in future clean-ups please get in touch through our contact page.

Community Clean-up
The greenway around Shirley Warren is a fantastic resource, but we think it could look better. We have Clean-up day happening on Saturday 22nd October 2016. We will be starting at the Ice House on Warren Avenue, so come along and bring a friend and a pair of gloves, and let’s make Shirley Warren a better place.
