Update – Money Saving Event
Thank you to everyone who turned out for our Money Saving Event on 1st April. This was the first big event we have run as Shirley Warren Working Together. We were delighted to have Southampton Repair Cafe, Bike2Basics, Scrapstore, the Community Garden and the Environment Centre joining us in Shirley Warren.
Bike2Basics tackling the bicycles in need of repair
We launched our Lightbulb Challenge at the event, and gathered the energy-saving pledges and ideas on our poster.
With materials from Southampton Scrapstore, our community created a giant lightbulb, reusing materials that would otherwise have been thrown away.
The repairs carried out lots of repairs, and showed how it was done.
Money Saving Event Saturday 1st April 2017
Join us on 1st April for our Money Saving event.
Location: Shirley Warren Action Centre, 117 Warren Crescent, Southampton, SO16 6AY.
Entry is free, and families with children are welcome.
Southampton Repair Cafe will be relocating to Shirley Warren for our event. They will be bringing their group of talented repairers, and we want you to bring your items you need mending. Whether it’s a toaster that doesn’t work, your favourite pair of jeans missing a button, or necklace clasp that needs fixing, bring it along and get it fixed. There will be repairers for electrical items, clothing, jewellery, furniture and bicycles (by Bike2Basics) with us on the day. Find out more about what they do at www.transitionsouthampton.org There is no charge for having an item repaired, but any donations are welcome, as this helps to cover the repair cafe’s running costs. (Repair Cafe will be running in until 1 p.m., but Bike2Basics will be continuing until 2 p.m.)
Help with your utility bills
We would all like to save money on our electric, gas and water bills. Come and speak to the friendly advisors from the Environment Centre, who will give you free and impartial advice on how to save money on your utility bills. We will also have support from the utility network operators to make sure you get all the supports available, especially for residents in need of a little (or a lot) of extra help.
We are launching our Lightbulb Challenge on the 1st April. This is a chance all of us in Shirley Warren to challenge ourselves to use less energy, especially at peak times between 4-8 p.m. This will be the first of three events this year, culminating in our Big Switch Off on 25th November 2017.
We want to hear from you!
Shirley Warren Working Together is about more than an occasional event or a logo. It’s about a community coming together, making their voice heard and making their area a better place to live in. What would you like to see done better Shirley Warren? How can we as a community achieve that? We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas of what we as a community can work on together. Let’s keep the conversation going.
We will add any updates as they appear.
